About the Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC)

About the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

Overview:

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

What is CEC, and who is apart of it?

CEC is a professional association of special education teachers and administrators; related service providers such as school psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers; university professors, undergraduate and graduate students, and parents. The association works to advance the educational success of students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents and support those who serve this special population.

What are the benefits of being a CEC or SCEC member?

CEC knows that special education is a profession that attracts people who are dedicated and committed to their field, people who seek continuing education and learning opportunities so that they can do the best job possible, and people who are willing to stand up and work for change and improvement. To help our members realize their goals, CEC offers the following professional benefits to members.
