Program Description

The Dewitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Pathways to Teaching Careers Program, which is coordinated through Atlanta's Southern Education Foundation is designed to increase the number of highly qualified teachers - particularly minorities - in our nation's rural and urban public schools.  This is accomplished through the collaboration of representatives from Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), Savannah State University (SSU) and the Savannah/Chatham County Public Schools (SCCPS).

Non-certified teachers and paraprofessionals are awarded scholarships and other support services to earn professional certification.  In return, they must commit to teaching three years in the urban schools of Chatham County.

The idea for the Pathways Program was originated by Dr. Mildred J. Hudson, former Program Officer for the Dewitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund.
