Overview
The College of Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University develops educators who are prepared, reflective, decision makers. The AASU prepared educator demonstrates the highest qualities of character and ethical behavior as well as the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that support scholarship, professionalism, technology, and diversity.
A portfolio is an “organized, goal-driven documentation of [one’s] professional growth and achieved competence in the complex act called teaching” (pp.3-4). The AASU Professional Teaching Portfolio for initial certification candidates serves to show beginning mastery of the following components of professional practice:
- Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
- Domain 2: The Classroom Environment
- Domain 3: Instruction
- Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
Based upon the professional standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Educator Preparation Standards, and the Performance Outcomes Assessment (POA) Instrument, the AASU Professional Teaching Portfolio outlines research-based indicators within four Domains. Included are a total of 27 indicators of effective teacher qualities. The AASU Professional Teaching Portfolio offers an opportunity for teacher candidates to submit reflections and original artifacts that show beginning mastery of the four aforementioned Domains.
