C. 2002 Scholarly Activities

  • T he workshops that I conduct in the schools on effective teaching promotes the University as well as gives the staff professional growth and development.
  • While furthering my own education I try to impart some of this knowledge into the community and my classes. I feel it is impornt that pre-service teachers keep abreast of the latest happenings in education.
  • I try to serve as an Ambassador for my University. During reading week I can often be found in some funny attire reading stories to kindergarten children. I have served as a judge in local science fairs.
  • I have done a great deal of research in the area of teacher efficacy and presented some of these findings at the ATCE conference this summer.
  • My greatest professional gain this year was learning how to teach a WebCT course in Spring 2003, ECUG 4300. (you can teach an old dog new tricks!)

Professional Assignments and Service Activities

2002 Service Activities:

  • I developed individual programs of study for 70 students enrolled in the Camden and Brunswick Centers during this year. We have had a tremendous influx in the Early Childhood Education as well as Post-Bac Programs.
  • The approval to start a cohort group in Brunswick was probably my most significant contribution this last year. Plans are for this group to begin in either summer or fall of 2003.
  • I taught Friday and Saturday classes which the students greatly appreciated.
  • Observing all students teach and giving them the feedback is priceless. They are so appreciative to know what is expected of them when they go to student teach. While teaching the Pre-K Practicum class I arrange to see each student teach a lesson in a school of their choice. It requires a lot of travel but the outcome and benefits far exceed the trouble.
  • I arrange many venues for professional growth and development that will be beneficial to pre-service their own classrooms.
  • My availability to students far exceeds anything that these students are accustomed to. They feel that I am their connection to AASU.
