COURSES TAUGHT

As Teacher Induction Program Coordinator for Armstrong Atlantic State University my job has involved developing and facilitating a program for mentoring first year teachers. This program provides developmental support for the teachers, a contact and resource for administrators and mentors in the local education systems, and a liaison for the university faculty. My position is considered non-teaching. My responsibilities are for the planning, facilitation, and implementation of the Teacher Induction Program. I do, however, teach classes for professors upon request and conduct classes throughout the year about the induction program.

C. Professional Development Activities

In addition to attending sessions at conferences for my professional development, I have personally purchased approximately $200 per year of cassettes by presenters and books from the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and National Staff Development Council. These tapes and books are on topics relevant to current research, effective teaching practices, professional portfolios, and induction programs. Study of these materials along with books provided from my ASCD premium membership help to keep me updated on topics of importance in my field of education.

E. Service Activities and Consulting

Lions Club projects for Lions Club International Foundation and local and regional Lions activities for sight preservation are the service concerns for whihc I feel the most passion - 2002

Division of Student Affairs has recognized me consistently as AASU personnel, named by students as someone who has made significant impact in their lives. This must be due in part to the time I spend in advisement and consultation with students. I feel that the students are our purpose and most deserving of time and attention so I work hard to provide a schedule that is convenient to them and to respond to requests to meet with students. - 2002

The Garden Club of Savannah NOGS tour is a way that I combine my personal investment in the history of Savannah and enthusiasm for Savannah tourism and beautification. As chairman of the hostesses for this tour, my responsibilities include planning sessions for setting up and publicizing the tour and specifically identifying and scheduling no fewer than 50 volunteers for each of the two days of the tour. More than 5,000 persons attend this tour each year. - 2002

Professional Development Organizational Plan – Savannah-Chatham Board of Public Education – contracted consulting – 1998-99

Savannah Arts Academy - Program design, Faculty description, and Organizational Plan and Long-range goals - Summer 1997

Brain Research - Relevance in the Classroom" April 13, 1999 -   Heard Elementary Faculty Enhancement to Meet Goals

"Questioning Techniques to Promote Participation and Motivation" April 20, 1999 - Heard Elementary Faculty Enhancement to Meet Goals

Scholarly Activities for 2002

Preparing and presenting workshops and sessions for teachers and pre-service teachers. For these activities I must keep informed of new information on a wide spectrum. Very often, I will be called upon to determine timely and helpful topics based on problems presented by principals.

I feel that I am a valuable resource as planner for curriculum areas that relate to classroom practice. My training as a teacher assessment specialist and the time I spend in classrooms observing teaching help me to be a critical judge of effectiveness.
