Professional
Teaching Portfolio
The College of Education at Armstrong
Atlantic State University develops educators who are prepared,
reflective, decision makers. The AASU prepared educator demonstrates
the highest qualities of character and ethical behavior as
well as the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that support
scholarship, professionalism, technology, and diversity.
The comprehensive teaching portfolio serves
to show evidence that the M.Ed. candidate:
- Standard I: knows the subjects he
or she teaches and how to teach those subjects to all
students;
- Standard II: committed to all students
and their learning;
- Standard III: is responsible for
managing and monitoring student learning;
- Standard IV: systematically reflects
about his or her practice and learns from experience;
and
- Standard V: is a member of a learning
community.
Each of the five Standards emphasizes
related Elements that support the given Standard, totaling
25 Elements (see Portfolio
Rubric).
In essence, the comprehensive teaching
portfolio is a collection of written reflections and artifacts
that are thoughtfully selected to show evidence of each of
the Elements. The M.Ed. candidate may combine two or more
Elements within one Standard, ensuring that this combination
is made explicit by labeling accordingly. A minimum of one
artifact per Standard must be included. Artifacts must be
those in which the candidate participated, created, or used
in the classroom. In other words, the artifacts must be performance-based.
Important Note: If using student work or assessment data,
ensure that students' names and other identifying information
are removed.
