A Letter from the Dean:
The College of Education – what is it? It is a diverse, dynamic, progressive college made up of academic departments and service units. Much of the diversity comes from the four departments that prepare candidates to be prepared reflective educators who are committed to the learning of all students. The College of Education reaches out by sharing its talents and resources with the campus, the community and beyond through a variety of activities and initiatives.
The first responsibility of the College of Education is, of course, to support the mission and goals of Armstrong Atlantic State University. As a teaching institution, two of AASU's primary goals are to provide informed, stimulating and effective instruction and to afford candidates at all levels with instruction by experienced professors who model best practice in scholarship, professionalism, diversity and technology. The College of Education addresses these goals in a multitude of ways: by hiring and retaining quality faculty, by providing professional development for faculty, and by offering the latest technological teaching tools along with training on how to use those tools.
The College of Education provides public service to the community and surrounding region through its instructional facilities, service centers and partnership agreements with local schools, public agencies and businesses. Many of these partnerships offer teacher education candidates the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience while serving the community. As pioneers in the field of distance learning and educational technologies, the College of Education has formed unique alliances and programs that serve people throughout the state and region.
I invite you to come to AASU and visit us. We have numerous activities taking place on campus and in the College this year. Come and join us as we celebrate the proud heritage that is the College of Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
